There are undeniable correlations between the skills needed to succeed in the wilderness and that of the equally challenging perils of life and business in the world. Deer Hill Expeditions has been giving youth the opportunity to learn these skills for over eleven years with the Deer Hill Foundation. As a former expedition participant with Deer Hill I had the opportunity to learn and grow alongside some of the sponsored boys and girls. We rebuilt Hopi ceremonial stairs, maintained National Forest trails, and bonded as only backcountry group-mates can. Deer Hill Expeditions challenges young people, showing them their limitless potential, building self-confidence, open-mindedness, and respect for others. Help keep the true mechanisms of progress alive and sponsor a car on The Deer Hill rally. All proceeds go to The Deer Hill Foundation-Brad CrescenzoThe Deer Hill Foundation was founded in 1998, with the belief that wilderness challenge and cross-cultural service are empowering and expansive when experienced in the context of a dynamic group and a spirit of cooperation. The original Board of Directors wanted a way to offer opportunities to students who might otherwise not be able to afford a Deer Hill program. In 11 years, they have made nearly 400 scholarships for diversity. The Deer Hill Foundation furthers the mission of Deer Hill Expeditions by specifically pursuing three goals: 1) Provide scholarship grants for participation in summer outdoor programs for students. 2) Support cross-cultural service projects in Native American communities on the Colorado Plateau 3) Provide leader/teacher training. The Deer Hill Foundation Official Web-site

The Rally
Rally Update 2.20.2011Route scouting and production of the second Deer Hill Rally is well underway. The date is set for September 5, 2011. This year's route is 95% off-road, and the terrain is more challenging, the sights more beautiful, and the climates more extreme. From the Mountains of Colorado to the deserts of Utah, the Deer Hill Rally is sure to tickle the senses of even the most seasoned adventure traveler.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rally Update 6.11.2010:The 2010 Deer Hill Rally was a huge success. Special thanks to our corporate sponsors, Storm King Media, Overcrest Media, Doug Capelan and the Deer Hill team who took care of us at the Rally start. I hope to see you all again next year.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Deer Hill Rally is an endurance challenge, by car. The purpose of the rally (besides fun) is to raise money for the Deer Hill Foundaion. The cars will leave Mancos, Colorado heading North by West past Mesa Verde, toward La Sal National Forest. Then make tracks for Capitol Reef, south toward Escalante National Staircase and end at 'Hole in the Rock' the break in the great walls of Lake Powell. The entry fee is a donation to the Deer Hill Foundation. There is no donation minimum, give what you can, all are welcome. A proof of donation will be the entry ticket. If you cannot race but wish to donate, you can 'sponsor' a vehicle that is already signed up to race, supplimenting whatever donation the drivers of that vehicle made. Sponsors will pledge an amount of their choosing and if requested get their name or company logo on the vehicle matched with their sponsorship. To donate please visit the 'Donate' section of this website. All cars should have at least two drivers. All participants should be prepared for a wide spectrum of driving terrain from highways to mild off-road conditions toward the tail end of the rally. All participants are responsible for sustaining themselves during the rally (bring your own food, water, camping equiptment; a tent, sleeping bag, water container, and spare fuel are the basic recomendations. (Be prepared for anything. I cant stress this enough, once the rally starts YOU ARE ON YOU'RE OWN. Just your team, your vehicle, and the elements) All participants who finish the race will be treated to a victory BBQ at the finish line, compliments of the rally staff. The rally will commence the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 28, 2010 at 12pm from the Mancos community center. There will be a pre-rally briefing where a route map will be given to each participant and a detailed description of what to expect along the way. If you have any further questions please feel free to send us an e-mail from our 'Contact' page.Rally Facts: 383 Miles11.5 HoursCoordinates:Turn 1: N37 27.908 W108 31.275Turn 2: N37 27.751 W108 32.172Turn 3: N37 28.975 W108 39.732Turn 4: N37 52.355 W109 20.571Turn 5: N37 37.526 W109 28.679Turn 6: N37 34.367 W109 29.247Turn 7: N38 22.429 W110 42.345Turn 8: N38 17.935 W111 24.125Turn 9: N37 54.072 W111 25.506Turn 10: N37 43.621 W111 31.429Turn 11: N37 43.470 W111 31.613Finish: N37 15.400 W110 54.061

2.20.2011---------Doug Capelin, and I have been working toghether to bring this years rally to fruition. The final event details are being ironed out as we speak. Registration is not open yet, but you may still donate to the Deer Hill Foundation via this website or theirs. A new donation structure, and donation minmum have been implemented, all to increase efficiency, and ensure we are doing as much as possible to further the goals of The Deer Hill Foundation. Every year the rally grows, and every year The Deer Hill Foundation can positively effect the lives of more motivated young people. Many thanks to everyone who participated and help me organize the rally last year. You know who you are, and so do I.12.08.2010---------The scouting over, the route planned, the count begins. September 2, 2011 is the date for the next Deer Hill Rally. There are sserious overhauls to the program this year. The group will stay small, light, and fast. With more than 95% of this years route off-road, the teams will have a significant challenge from the starting gate. Teamwork is paramount to getting through the course. Stay tuned to the Deer Hilly Rally Blog to keep up with the rally progress.6.11.2010---------With the rally two weeks behind us, I can still feel the burning sun on my shoulders, the torrid desert air on my face, and the roll of an engine at the redline. I am reminded of the cool nights spent hiding from the desert sand, the smell of propane cooked camp food, and cold drinks sweating in my hands. The rally is by design a ferocious competition, and the Deer Hill Rally is a combination of that fierce spirit, and merciless terrain. There is a morbid beauty to southern Utah, a splendor in fortitude and functionality. Like the vehicles we travel in, over the red sand and slick rocks, there is a sturdiness to the deserts design, and at the same time and incredible fragility.I want to thank everyone who participated in the Deer Hill Rally this year. It was a great success and I hope everyone got out of it what they had hoped to, and will be up for the challenge again next year.
